Vanity for ever
Installation, 3D printing of a Siamese human skull, Tricolor PLA file
2023
The history of the vanitas, works of art that have fascinated for centuries, is reinterpreted here. Vanities have traditionally highlighted the transience of life, the vanity of earthly pleasures and the certainty of death. Vanity for Ever borrows from this tradition, while at the same time freeing itself from its classical repudiation. Poking fun at vanity - the human obsession with self-contemplation - by taking it to the extreme. While the Siamese skull is clearly a celebration of art and technology, it also reminds us of the absurdity of our perpetual quest for greatness, and to accept the irony of life.
A reminder of our vulnerability in a world dominated by technology, using technology to explore a theme deeply rooted in the past.
3D printing, a technology that embodies the paradox of our times. While science and technology bring us closer to immortality, this work reminds us that death remains inescapable, and that our lives are woven with an undeniable fragility.
